High Pine Home & Patio Remodel

Located in the charming High Pines neighborhood, this project was born out of necessity and vision. The homeowners—a couple with three young daughters—had outgrown their dated home but found that the cost and compromises of buying a new property in Miami simply didn’t make sense. Instead, they chose to invest in a full-scale renovation, tailored to enhance their lifestyle, maximize space, and modernize every corner of their home.

The transformation included opening up the kitchen to create more connected living spaces, enclosing a discreet laundry room, remodeling all bedrooms and bathrooms, creating a resort-style outdoor retreat with a new pool, patio, and outdoor kitchen, and building an 800-square-foot master suite addition. The result is a cohesive, family-friendly design that balances style, comfort, and function.

Main Living Areas
At the heart of the home, the kitchen showcases custom Shaker-style cabinetry, sleek quartz countertops, and a spacious central island designed for entertaining. Pendant lights above the island add warmth and character, while linear diffusers subtly enhance airflow. Custom refrigerator panels create a cohesive, high-end aesthetic, all set atop durable wood-look porcelain tile flooring that extends throughout the living spaces.

Flowing effortlessly into the living room, the open-concept design promotes comfort and sophistication. Recessed and linear LED lighting highlight a striking tropical wood feature wall, while a wood slat divider adds architectural interest and provides subtle separation without sacrificing openness. Hidden within this feature wall is a discreet door leading to a new, efficiently designed laundry room.

Master Suite Addition
A major highlight of the renovation is the luxurious 800-square-foot master suite addition, a serene retreat offering privacy and indulgence. The master bedroom features linear LED lights, elegant pendant lighting, and a space-saving pocket door that enhances flow.

The adjoining master bathroom evokes a spa-like atmosphere, with a massive shower and built-in steam room as the centerpiece. A bold black-and-white geometric tile pattern brings striking visual contrast, complemented by globe-style light fixtures, a sleek vanity, dark wood cabinetry, and soft-toned hexagon tile flooring. A custom walk-in closet with tailored cabinetry completes the suite with a blend of organization and luxury.

Outdoor Living
The outdoor space was completely reimagined to function as an extension of the home—ideal for both relaxation and entertaining. The redesigned pool features a modern aesthetic with a party bench and sun shelf. The patio ceiling is finished in Thermo Wood Ayous for a warm, natural feel, while the gourmet outdoor kitchen boasts porcelain countertops, dark blue cabinetry with stainless steel hardware, and a high-end stainless steel grill.

Additional Spaces
Throughout the home, the existing bedrooms and bathrooms were fully renovated to meet the needs of the growing family. Custom mahogany and painted Shaker-style vanities, porcelain tile, glass shower enclosures, new doors, flooring, and upgraded closet systems bring functionality and design into every corner.

Curb Appeal
The renovation begins at the front door with a striking modern tropical wood entry, porcelain tile pathway, and a stucco clapboard façade. Rich Thermo Wood Ayous soffits add depth and warmth to the exterior, creating a welcoming and cohesive aesthetic that hints at the thoughtful transformation within.

This beautifully reimagined kitchen and living space remodel is a fusion of comfort, elegance, and indoor-outdoor connection—crafted to elevate daily living and entertaining alike.

For this long-time Coral Gables resident of South African heritage, the dream of transforming her home had been years in the making. With a deep appreciation for design and a cherished collection of traditional South African artwork, she envisioned a space that felt both personal and inspiring—where modern elegance could highlight her cultural roots. With this remodel, she finally brought that vision to life.

At the heart of the home is a custom kitchen, designed with both style and functionality in mind. Shaker-style cabinetry and sleek quartz countertops surround a generous kitchen island that serves as both a gathering space and a functional centerpiece. Stainless steel appliances provide modern convenience, while window backsplashes frame views of the lush tropical garden, filling the space with natural light and tranquility.  

Above, exposed beams and a tongue-and-groove ceiling bring warmth and architectural texture, echoing the natural elements outside.  Expansive floor-to-ceiling impact windows open to a vibrant pool area and tropical garden invite the outdoors in, creating a peaceful yet dynamic setting for relaxation and gatherings.

A large butler’s pantry offers additional storage and prep space—perfect for entertaining—while maintaining a clean, open aesthetic in the main kitchen. 

The open-plan layout flows effortlessly into the spacious living and family areas, A central courtyard offers a second inviting outdoor space, bringing light and greenery deeper into the home, while the thoughtfully designed entryway welcomes guests with understated charm and a preview of the refined yet soulful design within.

This remodel not only modernized the home—it gave the homeowner the perfect canvas to display her cultural heritage and create a warm, inviting space that reflects her unique story.

This thoughtfully designed remodel brings warmth, elegance, and functionality together in a custom kitchen and family room that feels both timeless and welcoming.

New to Coconut Grove, this young couple—busy professionals with a toddler son—wanted to create a home that matched their lifestyle and personal taste. Their vision: a space that blends comfort, style, and practicality for everyday family life, while still offering refined details for hosting and relaxing.

At the heart of their newly remodeled home is a refined kitchen featuring slim Shaker-style wood cabinetry and luxurious Taj Mahal quartzite countertops. A peninsula anchors the space, offering both prep surface and casual seating, while pendant lights above add a soft, modern glow. The gas stove takes center stage as a focal point, framed beautifully by the surrounding cabinetry.

Panel-ready appliances—including a concealed refrigerator and dishwasher drawers—maintain a seamless and sophisticated look. A cozy breakfast nook invites casual meals and easy mornings, perfectly positioned with view to the pool and garden..

Blending warmth, refinement, and chef-worthy function, this custom Pinecrest kitchen brings modern design to life through curated materials and seamless flow—perfectly tailored to its passionate home chef.

The homeowner, a professionally trained pastry chef, lives and breathes the art of cooking. With roots in Mediterranean cuisine and a love for fresh, genuine ingredients, she envisioned a kitchen that would inspire daily creativity, accommodate family life with her husband and two sons, and provide a space as beautiful as it is functional.

The result is a stunning space that balances form and function. A thoughtful mix of warm wood grain and soft matte laminate cabinetry creates modern visual harmony, enhanced by a sleek Gola opening system for a clean, handle-free look. Taj Mahal quartzite wraps the countertops and backsplash, offering natural elegance and lasting durability for the demands of a working kitchen.

An integrated kitchen table extends from the cabinetry, forming a seamless and intimate spot for family meals or casual entertaining. Connected to the family room, the open-plan design encourages effortless flow and togetherness. Mediterranean Villa

Scope of Work: Major renovation of an historic 4 bedroom/3 bath 1924 Old Spanish masterpiece into a contemporary villa honoring the home’s original splendor. The project added 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a swimming pool and extensive landscaping. On completion featured on Coral Gables TV network and included in several city home tours.

Client Feedback: “When we saw how this beautiful house had been disrespected by previous “renovations” we knew that the city deserved to see again what a gem Walter de Garmo had created.   John was meticulous about the custom kitchen cabinetry and accommodation of our imported French enamel stove.  The custom encaustic tile installed in the loggia was installed as per the 1920’s method with no grout.  The selection of keystone for the entry pathway and pool patio was perfect and half the rate of vendors we had found.  This was the first home In Coral Gables to install aluminum frame hurricane windows with the appearance of a wood.   These are  just a few of the spectacular touches that made us so satisfied with John’s management of our project.”

Project Overview

Full remodel of an outdated, dimly lit 4 bed / 2 bath 1950’s ranch in High Pines into a bright, contemporary 4 bed / 4 bath open plan with indoor/outdoor flow.  
Project included new kitchen, living, dining, bedrooms and bathrooms, new AC system, impact windows, roof, deck, driveway and pool.

Timeline: 6 months.
Cost: $300,000.

Client Feedback: “We had talked for years about remodeling the house, we're so happy we finally pulled the trigger.  John has an eye for detail and is an expert in renovation.  Also, a just a great guy to work with.  We're so happy with the results and are enjoying the new space in our home." 

Before

As seen in the photos, the home hadn't been updated since the seventies.  The kitchen was small, the house was not open to the pool and garden, windows were not impact, the roof was near end of life, and it had only 2 bathrooms, 1 small master bath and the other serving 3 bedrooms and guests.

After

The clients know our previous work, so they trusted us with design and materials choices.  As you can see from the photos, the house has a cleaner, lighter and open modern look. The color is uniform and light, but not overpowering. The trim and fixtures are modern and simple and the feel is more pleasant.

Scope of Work: Renovation and garage conversion of small 2 bed / 1 bath 1940’s bungalow into a comfortable 3 bed / 2 bath with master suite.

Conversion of garage to master suite and complete existing home remodel, including new kitchen and bathroom, remodeled living & bedrooms, impact windows, roof, electrical, plumbing, AC system, deck and landscaping.

Project timeline:  4 months.
Total cost: $250,000

When Wendy contacted Orange Home to discuss their needs, she noted that there home was in good but original conditions...nothing had been substantially updated since the 40's.  

Project Overview

Complete bathroom remodel; new LVP flooring throughout; all new doors, baseboards and moldings; remove mirrors and wallpaper, refinish and paint.

Project timeline:  15 days
Total cost: $25,000

Wendy and Miguel, a young couple who work in education, wanted to remodel their bathroom and update the kitchen, living room, dining room and bedroom of their home with new floors, doors & trim, lighting and paint.  And they wanted the work done in three weeks with a budget of $25,000.  Quite a challenge, but at Orange Home, we believe you don’t have to spend a fortune to have good design and quality.

Before

When Wendy contacted Orange Home to discuss their needs, she noted that they had installed new cabinets and appliances in the kitchen, but nothing else in the 1970’s era apartment had been updated in the last 10-15 years.  As you can see in the photos, the living room had mirrored walls on one side, wall paper on the other; floor tile was white ceramic throughout; bathroom had a cramped tub with porcelain tiles showing their age.

After

As you can see from the photos below, the house has a cleaner, lighter modern look.  The refinished wood floors are warm and inviting, all wood shaker cabinets are modern gray base and white uppers, with hidden laundry, kitchen and bathroom tiles and walls are gray porcelain tile.

Scope of work: to create a private outdoor sitting room, garden was cleared, a modern fence and bamboo hedge were installed, artificial turf was laid down, and a platform/deck was situated under and around a majestic oak tree.
